Still taking Bunky Award Nominations...
8/25/08 - 2nd Day - Midday. Now, I'm serious about y'all nominating agrarian blogs for the new and coveted Bunky Awards. All you regular readers should be nominating blogs so we can hand out awards and exquisite Mesquite Coffee
to the winners. Remember, the purpose of this is 1) to have fun, and 2)
to drive traffic to these blogs, so people can read the really neat
stuff going on out there in Agrarian Homesteading land. We have had
several nominations, both through the comments section and through
email... here again are the categories, along with the nominations we
have received so far (oh, and if the nomination was not an AGRARIAN
blog, then I disqualified it... sorry!):
1. Best All-Around Agrarian Blog. The Deliberate Agrarian A Process Driven Life Tabletop Homestead
2. Most Educational or Informative Agrarian Blog. The Deliberate Agrarian The Process Driven Life The Sifford Sojournal Dry Creek Chronicles
3. Best Newcomer Blog. Country Mom The Sifford Sojournal 4. Blog most likely to make you look up words in the dictionary and to challenge your brainal functuosity. A Process Driven Life
5. Best Looking Blog. Ante Family Agrarians Debylin's Weblog R&V Farmstead
6. Best Blog most people have probably never read or heard of. Journeys of a Pilgrim Debylin's Weblog Promised Land Darkwood Farm 7. Greatest Agrarian Posterboy Blog. The Sifford Sojournal The Deliberate Agrarian A Process Driven Life
8. Best Children's or Young Person's Blog. Growing Up Agrarian 9. Blog most likely to have its owner and author arrested and/or summarily executed by the Government. A Process Driven Life
10. Best Feminine Blog. Country Mom
I
didn't put multiple nominations on there. Ok, so these are the
nominations we have received so far. I will leave it open for YOUR
nominations, then I have decided to put a voting poll up on the blog
for each category until we have picked the winners. So, we're still
waiting for your nominations, and then we'll start the fun part. Also,
remember if you post the nominations on your own blog (like Danielle did), please remember to let me know so I can add your nominations to the list.
Thanks y'all,
Michael Bunker

Agrarian Articles: Update: Slow Mail Wednesday, April 09 @ 11:23:26 CDT by (503 reads) | Hey y'all. I wanted everyone to know I am WAYYY behind on answering
email and personal correspondence. This is a very busy time of year
with the outside work, gardens, animals, etc. and I have Ranchfest
coming up and am trying to play general contractor on that job, as well
as trying to stay up on blogging, etc. I do apologize for everyone who
is waiting on some type of personal correspondence from me. I do hope
to get to all of them, but if you absolutely are sure that I have
either lost or misplaced your email, or I didn't receive it, please
resend it. But I can tell you that the likelihood is that I have read
it but haven't had the opportunity to reply.
It looks like Ranchfest is (like most spring ranchfests) going to be
lightly attended. About 80% or more of the proposed attendants have
cancelled, most for good reasons, so we will likely be doing most of
the work ourselves, which is fine. It has been good to see the
financial response though, and we should be able to get a good portion
of the building done during the week. I hope everyone will make a very
special effort to come out for Fall Ranchfest, since I have planned a
very large project and will need more than money to accomplish it. We
will need hands and labor for that job. So start your planning now,
and commit yourself to do your absolute best to be here. For those of
you who have been putting it off, make sure to be here this fall.
Hope all is well with you all... Pray for rain for us.

Agrarian Articles: The difference between Biblical Agrarianism and "Mercantile Agrarianism" Thursday, February 07 @ 10:15:28 CST by (1207 reads) | The difference between real Biblical Agrarianism and "partial" or "mercantile" Agrarianism
Let
me start by saying that I prefer any Agrarianism to modern
Industrialism, and that my comments are not designed to deflate,
attack, or dishearten anyone who is engaging in any Agrarianism
anywhere.

Why I do not support Ron Paul for President
Special Edition
There
are a wonderful variety of opinions in the Agrarian movement, and this
is how it ought to be. Of course, just because there are multitudes of
opinions does not mean that all (or any) of them are correct and have
merit.

Agrarian Articles: The Ordnung Wednesday, November 28 @ 07:59:38 CST by (2846 reads) | This definition of "Ordnung" has been adapted and revised by Michael Bunker from the definition in Wikipedia:
Ordnung are the community rules of life and living, and the concept is derived from the Amish communities. It is the German word for order,
arrangement, organization, system. Every church is its own governing
authority and has its own set of rules; therefore, it followsits own Ordnung. Their lives are ordered by this code.

Agrarian Articles: Amish in Illinois: Quiet, simple ways meshing well with pace of rural life Tuesday, November 20 @ 18:20:34 CST by (1377 reads) | SMADKINS writes "Newly established Amish settlements are exciting in a slow-paced way. Usually they are out of touristy areas and the people are pioneers of sorts. Imagine uprooting and moving to a far away place where there are few other Amish around. It has to be an intimidating, yet exciting, experience. Southern Illinois has seen an uptick in its Amish population. This newly established Amish settlment is truly in a "no man's land" in southern Illinois far from any major town. "

Agrarian Articles: Christianity Today Article: The Good Shepherds Friday, October 26 @ 06:37:38 CDT by (518 reads) | Christianity Today just did an article on Christian Agrarianism, and
remarkably it is not a hatchet job. There are two points I want to
make about the article. First, like Herrick Kimball pointed out over
at The Deliberate Agrarian - not all Agrarians are Farmers, and second
I want to point out that not all Christian Agrarians are market
capitalists either. Though I don't know of any Agrarians who wouldn't
mind making a buck or two off of their land, we differ from some in the
Agrarian movement in that we believe that the primary focus of the
homestead (and the homesteader) ought to be to provide as much of the
needs of the family as possible in every possible category. So our
goal is to provide for ourselves in order to keep ourselves separate
from the world, and NOT to start a successful alternative business.
Also, the article also links to three of our people, which is great! A Process Driven Life,
Ante Family Agrarians, and Tabletophomestead are all linked at the
bottom of the article as Christian Agrarian bloggers. Congrats. Find the article HERE: http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2007/october/43.64.html God Bless,
Michael Bunker

Agrarian Articles: Ranchfest... Some History Friday, August 31 @ 11:21:17 CDT by (653 reads) | Greetings. It is looking like we should have a great showing
for Ranchfest. Right now we are looking at upwards of 24 people coming
out, although we are used to massive cancellations at the last minute.
This year, however, even if the folks who have committed all show up
(Lord Willing), we should have a good showing and a great time. Mini

Agrarian Articles: Ranchfest info, rules, etc. Wednesday, August 29 @ 12:36:08 CDT by (622 reads) | Ranchfest info, rules, etc...
We are expecting a very good
showing for Ranchfest and for that we are very thankful and pleased. I
wanted to give out some more info for those who are planning to come
down.
Of course you are welcome to camp out on the land. We
will have a camping area for tents, and you are also welcome to bring a
camper or RV. If you camp, make sure you are prepared for rough
living. We do have an outhouse. There are snakes, spiders, and other
beasties out here. It will be early October, so it should be nice, but
we cannot promise anything concerning the weather. Highs should be in
the 70's and 80's with lows in the 50's. However, that could change
radically, with highs up to the high 90's and/or lows in the mid to low
40's. If it rains, you will need mud shoes/boots.
DRESS CODE
It is important that you know that we are a Christian community
attempting to live life humbly in accord with what we see as the
requirements that God has for his people. We have always encouraged
modest dress and "plain" clothing, but this year we will have a dress
code. Men should wear pants (not shorts - you don't want to wear them
anyway) and shirts with sleeves (not rolled up or sleeveless). Hats
are welcome, but not inside or when we are in prayer or partaking in
some means of Grace (preaching, teaching, etc.). Women should wear
long skirts or dresses and should wear headcoverings any time you are
on the ranch. If you have questions about headcoverings please let us
know before you get here. For questions about "WHY?" contact me. For
questions about what kind of headcoverings, etc. please email Danielle
(mdbunk@yahoo.com). If we end up swimming for some reason, or doing
any baptisms, men may wear shorts. We don't do "bathing suits" unless
they are the old-timey kind that cover up everything.
Ranchfest is Oct. 5-12.
Usually we have a community breakfast on Sabbath morning at around 9pm,
so we will be meeting at Double H Dining in Santa Anna for breakfast.
We will not be working on the Sabbath. Folks can get set up and come
on out when they are ready. We will be having Q&A on Saturday
night at 7pm. Sunday we will have fellowship followed by a big meal at
noon. We might have a teaching Sunday night. Monday we will start
work on our projects and we will have a sermon Monday night if the Lord
wills. One day during the week we will be having a memorial service
for our brother Doug Howey who was killed in a car wreck last fall
during Ranchfest.
