circumcision?

Contributed by joseph on Thursday, May 14 @ 21:45:23 CDT

ChristianityWe are expecting a baby boy in September and I am faced with a question, not whether or not to have him circumcised, but when.  Is there a clear command to have this done at a certain time or is whenever fine?  Actually, since it is the topic, what is expected of today's follower's with this, from a Biblical standpoint.  And how is this addressed on the ranch or at homebirths?  Since I have 2 girls, I have never delved into this issue.  Thanks for any info. and Bible references are as always much appreciated.

Mrs. Joseph

Mrs. Joseph,

We circumcised our son for hygienic reasons, not because we thought it is still commanded by God. However, I did read an article written by a doctor that supported circumcision on the 8th day as referred to in Genesis 17:12.

Genesis 17:12 [www.apostolic-churches.net]   And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which [is] not of thy seed.

He said there is something about the way the blood flows and clots in a newborn that causes the amount of bleeding to be much less than if they are done earlier or later than the 8th day. I've tried to find it on the internet but haven't been able to yet.

As a mom of 6 children which 3 are boys, I thought I would offer a comment.  We did not circumcise our boys, and I'm really glad we didn't.  We just trained them how to keep themselves clean, and it's never been a problem.  I noticed too that during the diaper period, not being circumcised helped protect them.
I have heard of boys who were circumcised who had problems later on because things were done incorrectly.  Also, when I was nursing my first born in the hospital, the dr. came in and did a circumcision on someone's little boy.  It was BRUTAL and nasty.  If you knew how they did it, you never would consent to all your son to have surgery (cutting off a living part of your body) without anesthesia. I have always heard that it is not medically necessary.  It's probably a money making thing for drs. Also, the Bible tells us that circumcision or not circumcison profits nothing.  Galatians 5:6

The only hope for anyone who desires to truly understand and obey the Holy Scriptures, is a return to both the Biblical culture and worldview where the scriptures were at home... Doctrine, Culture and Worldview... these things are not unconnected, except if we are to count that all three have been abandoned by modernist religion.
